The best way to find your way round London's restaurant world is by using a guide such as "Time Out's Guide to eating and Drinking in London". I have lived here for the last three years and it is unbelievable how standards change from year to year.

Incidentally somebody on the net mentioned Mexican restaurants : Down Mexico Way, is a good one just off Regent street. My favorite restaurants however are :

-Italian : Sol et Luna(Pizza), Covent Garden
           Bertorelli's, Covent Garden
-Indian : The Red Fort, Dean Street
         The Bombay Palace, Marble Arch
         Woodlands (South Indian), Panton Street
-French : Le Palais Du Jardin, Long Acre
          Bibendum, South Kensington

etc..etc...

Eat, Drink and be merry !!!!!!!!

Also look for a Time Out yearly feature "the ten best new restaurants in London" which I always found very reliable when I lived there.

Add Orso, Covent Garden -- great food, great atmosphere, perfect for after theatre, pricey

Also add Star of India, South Kensington, one of the very best in London IMHO

Country French: Kensington Place, on Kensington Church St. V. trendy atmosphere tho' which is not everyone's style.

Also the restaurant Wodka off Kensington High St. which is a kind of nouvelle Polish and lots of handmade flavored vodkas, it's better than it sounds and rather fun...
