I have been to Rudy's at least 10 times. I always order the sliced Prime Rib (yum, yum). However after ordering Brisket for the third time, I found it to be very dryed out each time even as they sliced it. When ordering my Prime Rib I still see the same dried out Brisket. So why do people like it so much. The unlimited supply of BBQ souce lets you drown the brisket. Is that the Answer??

Worst BBQ in Austin - Rudy's

We went for the first time tonight, as a result of a local TV station's poll of the best BBQ places in Austin (I believe it was the Fox affiliate, Channel 7). I wish we'd watched the newscast the previous evenings, 'cause I don't know who or how they ended up with Rudy's being the #1 BBQ place in Austin. The smoked turkey was dry and the brisket was fatty (although it was tasty). The BBQ sauce (or sause, as they spell it) was nothing to rave about. I don't see how Rudy's beat out Sam's BBQ, Bert's, the Salt Lick, or even the County Line.

I like the turkey a lot, and after side-by-side brisket comparison with stuff from the Salt Lick I *know* I like Rudy's better. I'd really rather not like Rudy's, because my inner snob finds it quite disturbing that a chain-like restaurant like that would be so appealing. However, that's what my senses tell me. My wallet, however, tends to protest; it's not a place for bargains.

Rudy's rates in > the top 3. I have 3 words for all of you BBQ aficionados out there: KREUZ MEAT MARKET! Kreuz's (in Lockhart) is what Rudy's aspires to be; plus, just walking into the building is enough of a "Mecca-like" experience to make you return again and again. As far as in-town BBQ, I always stick to the old-school route: Sam's for the great BBQ plus lively local atmosphere, and Artz Rib House for the incredible Country-style Pork Ribs. *slug*
