For South American, try Churasco's. Very good reputation and well worth it. Two locations, one very close to The Galleria. One of a kind desserts finish off a great meal.

For a great variety of foods and a wonderful atmosphere try the restaurant in the Lancaster Hotel located downtown near Pennzoil headquarters.

A "hunk of meat" place that also serves great lobster and swordfish is the world famous Palm, located on Westheimer, also near the Galleria. Jim Martin is the General Manager. Wonderful fellow.

Enjoy the 120 degree, 100 percent humidity weather while you're there!

A great Vietnamese restuarnt is Kim Son. It is on the south end of downtown. The menu is endless.... try the charcoal grilled shrimp or the peppered crabs (served in their shell). The people watching is terrific and it is very busy at all times of the day or night.

If you want good, but inexpensive mexican/Tex-Mex try Chuey' on Kirby and Westheimer.

THE BEST BBQ is Goode Co. on Kirby just south of Hwy 59, Must have the pecan pie. County Line BBQ is also a safe bet, on Westheimer.

For gulf coast seafood try Papasitos on Alabama near Richmond or Papadeauxs on the south loop (610) and south main or Joe's Crab Shack (on Richmond, but I've forgotten the cross street).

Bon appetit,

: I'm not crazy about big ol' hunks of dead cow, but otherwise eat pretty : eclectically. Regional specialties preferred, e.g. Tex Mex, Gulf seafood, : barbeque. (When I want French food, I'll go to France. Or maybe Philadelphia.) : Price isn't a big issue so long as a place is worth what it costs.

I'd recommend Amercias, on Post Oak near Westheimer, in the Saks Pavillion center. Outstanding food. Also check out the original Ninfa's on Navigation for a Houston-style Tex-Mex experience. (I noticed another individual recommended Chuy's; wait until you're in Austin and go to the original).

: Any recommendations gratefully accepted.

: If there's an FTP or WWW archive of restaurant reviews like there is for : Boston, I'd love to hear about it.

We're in the process of building a WWW archive for both Houston and Austin. The Austin one is further along. Check it out at

http://www.tech.net/info

We're adding information to it frequently, and have just enlisted a new editor in Houston to manage the reviews. I manage the Austin reviews.
