After reading about El Caribe here and since I was craving some mexican food yesterday, we decided to have dinner there yesterday. The chips were the thicker, darker kind that I prefer (more like totopos found in Mexico) and the salsa was HOT! :) We had the Queso Caribe which included tiny shrimp and other toppings. It was very tasty. The house margaritas were ok, although I don't want to know what kind of tequila they used... ;-) I ordered the Milanesa Laredo and my SO ordered the Chile Relleno. The milanesa was nice and came with a side of fried potatos and the best ranchero beans I've tasted in a restaurant in Austin. The chile relleno was *huge*. They must have used a half a chicken's worth of meat to stuff that puppy. It was all very good. Total for two with 4 margaritas was arount $36. For lunch today we hit La Michoacana on East 7th street, where I had a huarache (misspelled guarache in the menu) with puerco en chile verde con nopales and my SO had 3 tacos. Total with 2 aguas frescas was around $13.
