If you haven't tried these three, then you're missing out on some pretty high value local restaurants:

Hyde Park Bar & Grill (near 42nd and Duval)
East Side Cafe (Manor Road, a couple blocks east of I35) Threadgill's (North Lamar or Barton Springs & Riverside area)

If you HAVE tried these, then never mind . . .

Try Ararat's in the Hyde Park area (North Loop?). Go on Thursday nights - they have BELLY DANCING!

If you're after something in roughly the same price range as fast food, and don't require meat, Veggie Heaven on Guadalupe just south of campus is very good, and probably "different" enough for you.

We've been asking the same question.....nothing would be finer than sitting out on the new patio with 40# of spicy crawfish.
