Believe it or not I went to Joe's Crab Shack and had a delicious Tuna filet with a citrus marinade. I was a bit skeptical because the last time I ate there the food wasn't that great. Most of their fare is of the fried variety and the crabs are pretty overpriced but man that was some good Tuna. jamie

quoting Jay MacBride: : : Sushi grade tuna is perhaps one of the best fish in the world!! (imo) yesssss !! 's alright to drop the "perhaps" and "imo", Jay. you'll find supporters for that opinion here... imagine my happiness when a month ago I found Topopo (after 3 days of sushi-testing in Vancouver), where the all-you-can-eat $12 (Canadian) lunch menu included tuna sashimi.... (the $7 happy hour "choose four" did also!) and the $18 dinner menu included salmon sashimi ALSO !! And they were not stingy with the portions, NOT AT ALL!! I don't know how they can break even -- fish prices up there weren't discounted for "nearness"... : Maybe better that steak. I love steak! About 15.00 a lb at Central Market. : Buy it in a block, not sliced. Allows for searing exterior, leave rare : interior!! yep! so/too much fish is ruined by overcooking it... (nearly as much as steak, come to think of it... <sigh>))

I know about Castaways, Gilligan's, Red Lobster, Landry's, >Marisco's, etc., and all the Cajun seafood places (Gumbo's Pappadeaux's, >etc.). However, I scooped the following off the Austin360 web site, and >was wondering if anyone had any experience with them: > >Fishnet Restaurant (1810 E 12th St, Austin) >Roland Fish Market (14611 Burnet Rd) >Springhill Restaurant (5712 Manchaca Rd) >TJS Seafood (1900 E 7th St) Within the Vietnamese/Chinese category, Sea Dragon specializes in seafood. If you want "same-day fresh", they have some fishies swimming around in tanks they will "fish" out for you. One of my benchmarks of a good seafood restaurant is the tenderness of the squid, and Sea Dragon's is consistently wonderful. Sea Dragon is in the shopping center on the southwest corner of 183 and Ohlen Rd. (with Albertson's and Office Depot). To reverse a commonly-given direction, it's across the parking lot from Pho Nam :-) Cheers, Janet
