San Antonio is best known for its Mexican food, from authentic Tex-Mex to dishes found in the interior. _NOT_ Taco Bell! One of our most popular restaurants for visitors to our city is Mi Tierra, located downtown at Market Square. It's open 24/7, and serves excellent Tex-Mex. Just next door, is a sister restaurant, La Margarita, which serves Tex-Mex and various specialties. It's a little fancier, and popular for celebrations, parties, etc. On Leona Street, just down and under the freeway from Market Square, is the third of the sister restaurants, Pico de Gallo, where the locals eat. (We also go to the other 2!) - A good place to look is the San Antonio Convention & Visitor's Bureau web site at SanAntonioCVB.com or search San Antonio on one of the more popular search engines. Also, check out the Texas Monthly website -- they have a location where restaurants are listed. One caveat though - although it's fun to go to the Tower of the Americas and go up to the revolving restaurant - don't have dinner there. The food, although not bad, is no great shakes. Oh yeah, speaking of shakes - for a fabulous, genuine soda fountain milk shake - tell her to go to the Olmos Pharmacy (open Mon-Sat) on San Pedro - they still have an old-fashioned lunch counter! We have many types of cuisines here, Indian (Simi's); Greek (Demo's); Steak (Veladi Ranch Steak House); etc., etc. - you get the picture :) --Hope she has a great time choosing! -- --Maria L - San Antonian by choice!
