There is some good Mexican food down at the Market place which is in walking distance. Also if you do get a transporation, a good BBQ place nearby (north on 1604) is the County Line. For a nice evening (can't vouch for the quality of food anymore) is the Tower of Americas...rotates once every hour...nice to get reservations for 1/2 hour before sunset....Stuck here in the north...lived in Universal City (northeast) for 12 years....good eats there! Have fun!

I've heard >Liberty bar is one place, but I'm open to any and all suggestions of places >to hit or avoid. I posted the following in sat.food yesterday: I just came back from meetings in San Antonio and thought I'd contribute a few words about my eating experiences. Happily, I didn't have any bad meals. I naturally had several meals on the Riverwalk. Las Canarias had the best "fine dining" and was quite good for lunch too (the swordfish club was fine). The hotel Las Canarias is in also has another restaurant inside that serves a very nice breakfast. Boudro's had the best "regular dining." I thought their dinner menu was a bit better than for lunch. Zuni was also very good, though the food was not quite as well prepared as Boudro's. I didn't eat anywhere else there. From what I heard others in my group say, most other places on the Riverwalk didn't sound so great, though some liked the Fig Tree. One person got ill at La Paloma. I was disappointed that the gelateria in the Hyatt building was gone and replaced by a leather shop (a couple years ago, according to the owner). Off the Riverwalk, I had good meals at Los Barrios, Aldaco's, and Silo. Los Barrios lived up to its reputation. Aldaco's has moved around the corner into much larger quarters in Sunset Station. There weren't many people there on a Thurs. evening, but the fajitas were great and the margaritas were some of the best we had. Silo's food was impressive. It also had some excellent wine values and the desserts were fantastic. BTW, the I heard the Liberty Bar is good too.

More locals there than other "touristy" places. Good food, service, good margaritas
