It's a small place -- Scott Teal, the owner & pastry chef is almost always on site, and is both friendly and very interested in customer feedback. They have a moderate selection of baked goods and the requisite coffee-related paraphenalia (good latte). We've sampled pretty much everything -- I give excellent ratings to their bread (best sourdough I've had in a long time -- serious sour bite to it), their cinnamon rolls and their eclairs. The ham & cheese pocket sandwiches are good, but could use a little more ham and a little less cheese. The various cakes I've tasted were also excellent. The apple danish, like every other apple danish I've found in Austin, have too much 'danish' and not enough 'apple'. The kolaches (sausage wraps) should be avoided. The sausage is of unimpressive quality, both in taste and in grease content. I've spoken with the owner about it and recommended some better-quality sausage. Until then, I won't be ordering it again. They have around 10 tables and always have a couple of newspapers around if you forget reading material. Very friendly to families. I haven't figured out their bread schedule yet, so it's still a surprise to see what's available on any given day. The main competitors in this area would be Texspresso and Cheasapeake Bagel Company. Cheasapeake has a good lunch sandwich selection, but no where near the quality of baked goods. Texspresso I can't imagine will be in business in 6 months. Loyd Blankenship [email removed]
