It's on North Loop, about two blocks west of North Lamar.

My wife (from Mexico) likes Herbert's Taco Hut in San Marcos especially for the flautas. Its a bit of drive, but I have friends that go down there just for Herbert's. Is it authentic? No, but maybe more so than others. Also, I really liked Mi Madre's (a few locations in Austin) the one time I was there. Both places served chips and salsa (which I personally like), but on the other hand I don't remember any cheddar or american cheeses either. I agree, Mexican cheeses belong on Mexican dishes.
