P.F. Chang's

Has anyone tried P.F. Chang's? I tried it today, and I was wondering if my less-than-great experience was just a bad day for them. Here's how it went for me.

My friend and I went for the first time today. First I'll say that the building sets an incredible atmosphere. Very nice. The wait staff was very good. Since we were both there for the first time, the waitperson explained that all items on the menu are served "family style," meaning be ready to share with everyone at the table. No problem. She also explained that everything was a la carte. So, I thought, my soup would be extra. Hmmmmm.

I would have been VERY disappointed if I was alone and had gotten the Cantonese chicken. The portion was very small, and considering it was 10.00 and 3.00 for a small bowl of hot and sour soup, I would not have been happy with that alone. As it is we had the chicken ($10) and Szechuan Beef ($12) as well as the soup ($3 each). I do have to say the hot and sour soup was excellent. The BEST I have ever tasted. The beef was very good, too. A manager did come around to ask how things were; and, upon hearing that we thought the chicken portion was small, gave us another portion. But if that's what it takes to get a reasonable serving, don't order it to begin with.

All in all, the visit was a good one, but for the prices and the portion sizes, and the fact that all items are a la carte, it's not a place I'd visit that often.

Anyone else have some opinions?

Philip
