Tried the new Ninfa's again last night. Left sated again, but this time at S. 1st St. tacqueria prices. Two all-the-way Tex-Mex combo platters, chips, tortillas, salsas, 2 Dos Equis on tap... under $20, including a generous tip!!

You see, we discovered that Monday the Ninfa's Special dinner (queso tostado, guacamole, enchilada, taco, tamale, beans, rice) is 2-for-1 all day (regular $10.50). Dos Equis is $1.25. The Special started with a softball-sized puffed tostado covered in sharp queso. The guacamole portion is a bit small, but the guac itself near perfectly minimalist (tomato served on the side, as it should be). The cheese enchilada exuded just the right size puddle of cheese grease, and was covered in a light chili (not meat) gravy (I'll ask for some chopped onion next time). The pork tamale was =huge= and excellent, melt in your mouth masa and lean, well seasoned pork. The taco was also a giant, twice the size of most tacquerias, and muy delicioso. The refried beans... maybe the best thing on the plate, smooth, moist, nutty, still among the best I've had anywhere (are you listening Senor Cisneros JR.?;)). Even the rice was reasonably well done, or so said my S.O. The tortillas are thick and home-made. The salsas unique and addicting.

Tuesday night is 2-for-1 tacos al carbon, which I'm told is the house specialty. Maybe next week (burp... pardon me)
