We are pretty "Restaurant Challenged" around those parts! I have always enjoyed eating at Neal's Lodges on Hwy. 127 (which is off Hwy 83, South of Garner). I don't know if it would be suitable for anniversary dining, however. Also, it is dry, so no wine w/dinner! I would suggest Neal's for breakfast. You can sit out on the patio and look at the river while having morning coffee. They also have good homemade biscuits. Maybe go into Uvalde. I'm trying to think of some unique restaurants there, but having trouble! There used to be a place called the Tin Lizzie, but I think it's long gone. It was very good. The Ramada Inn has a fairly nice restaurant. Fredericksburg & Kerrville are a LONG way to go just for dinner. Kville is approx. 85 miles from Garner! Add another 20+ to get to Fburg. Those roads are not fun to drive at night, lots of deer to dodge. The Drugstore in Leakey has a real old-fashioned soda fountain. I would kill for a chocolate soda! I will keep thinking and get back to you if I come up with anything. I am homesick right now just thinking about the area! It is truly God's country. We own Elm Creek Ranch just South of Garner on the right, a place with a big red horse barn just north of Garner on the left and other property that's off FM 2748. It sure was fun growing up there! I worked at GSP during summers. My family used to own all of it. My grandpa sold the original part of the park to Texas in the early 30's for $12 and acre! He was then Superintendent for a long time. We were later forced thru condemnation to sell them what is known as the "new section" in the late 1970's. I can't wait until my baby (due in June!) is old enough to float the river and go to the dances at Garner. I guess I will be part of the lawn chair brigade that lines the dance floor. We used to make fun of them... Well, have a great time. Thanks for putting up with my reminiscing! Shawn Streib Gray
