As a student of chinese cooking for over 20 years, self taught, with
 fortunately
enought discretionary income to try many, many restaurants from houston's earliest Sun De Lux and Tin Tin's to the current best, I encourage lovers of oriental cuisines and inovative cooking and true classic chinese cuisine to try Empress of China run by Scott Chen. The word of mouth secret is to order off the menu. Scott does a price fixe multicourse dinner east meets west flavors blending continental and oriental. On request he will do artful
 vegitarian
dishes for those preferring. If you give him notice he will fix the most
 beautiful
true banquets. The wine cellar is extensive. Dress, neat you will feel
 comfortable
ladies dressing a little fancy to real fancy. Guys coats for dinner tie...well
 this
is Houston, you will feel comfortable wearing anything and smiling. Kids--mine love the place. When we went with friends the kids got their own table and the waiter did magic tricks with the kids and cabbage counts and at new years, lion dancing in the back room!! Mr. Wong runs the cleanest kitchen I've ever seen. Mine at home doesn't come anywhere close, not in the same league.

Seriously, this is one of the best restaurants on any continent. email me any questions. Scott doesn't know and didn't promote this. His restaurant depends upon and deserves word of mouth praise.
