Most folks consider it to be very "romantic". (I think they could update the decor, but the food is great.) Another very good and very intimate restaurant is Paggi House, near Riverside and Lamar. It's not strictly Italian, but it has some Italian dishes, and the food is usually spectacular. Expect to part with some cash at either place, with entrees at $15-$30 per person, plus wine, dessert, coffee, etc. Other choices include Tocai (6th St, across from Star Bar), Mezzaluna (in the warehouse district), and Madam Nadalini's (on Bee Caves Road). The food is excellent at all three, but the environment is less intimate, and Mezzaluna can get loud. I doubt any restaurant in town besides Basil's would satisfy the most purist definition of "Italian", but all of these are very good restaurants. jim andrews

Looking for a romantic resturant in Austin
Little Italy has live piano music, and lots of different rooms, increasing your chances of a secluded table. It's not near us, so we only ate there once. The food was above average, but of course nothing like Tocai. Someone has also raved about Spiazzo in austin.food, but on the night we tried to go there it was booked for a private party. The food is excellent at all three, The food is mediocre at Tocai, particularly when the cost is considered. And Mezzaluna has been deteriorating in recent years. There's nothing romantic about paying $75 on a dinner for two that's inferior to something you could have whipped up yourself. -President William Howard Taft
