Andrew,
Thanks anyways for the reccomendation but I think I'll pass
as "Cantonese" is most definitely NOT what I'm looking for. It's been my (somewhat limited) experience that most food styled on that of the Canton province (although I think the P.C. name is now something like Guangzhou) is way too bland, colorless, and seafood based for my tastes. This is not to say that it isn't 'good', just not what I prefer. I agree that the fact that an Chinese restaurant is heavily patronized by Chinese is generally a good sign but speaks nothing as to the style of cooking. I've many 'Asian' friends and aquaintenances that are aghast at what I'll eat and/or cook when it comes to spicing and heat levels.

Please, please, please, somebody find me a good Hunan,
Szechuan, or NORTHERN style restaurant. On a reccomendation from a friend at work I tried "Tien Jien" at West Gate and Lamar/290 but was quite disappointed. My benchmark was Kungpao chicken, Pork w/ garlic sauce, and Orange peel beef, all (of course) marked as hot on the menu but when they came all were singularly tasteless, underspiced, and monochromatic. Even after doctoring with hot oil (which wasn't even on the table, we had to request it) the meal was barely edible. Help!

Regards, Mark
