G'day I've never been there, but someone recently was raving about the steaks. They also tried to describe me the salad. Something about cooked but still crunchy lettuce ? They knew their explanation sounded bizarre. They just said "try it". Very good. I kinda like the beer selection too! John R. wrote: > > On sixth street (across from Katz', more or less). Any opinions? It smells > real good when I walk by . . . I don't regret dining there once to try it out (it's one of those "Austin Institution" places, I guess), but (butter aside) I didn't care enough for it to ever want to go back. It wasn't _bad_...it just wasn't remarkably good. Craig

One peer in the window screams "people with too much cash sitting around feeling self-congratulatory" rather than "place with kickass food." I'll pay just about any price for kickass food when I'm in the mood to eat out - but Ruth's Chris has an air about it that suggests that the quality of the chow would NOT be proportionate to the size of the check. Hoffbrau, on the other hand, smells good. And "smells good" is worth several points in piquing my curiosity. I'll definitely give it a try sometime this week, I think. || S.
