However, there are several German restaurants in Fredericksburg. You might check the Austin Chronicle archives. The Chronicle ran a special on Hill Country Food and Wine last year, which had extensive listings. This is a perfect time of the year to be visiting Hill Country. If I were going I would plan on leaving early, eating breakfast in Johnson City. Then I would travel the back road to Willow City, take the Willow City Loop to see the wildflowers and then into Fredericksburg for lunch and shopping. To make a day of it, I'd probably take the back roads, through Blanco, back to Austin. Wow, I've almost convinced myself that this is what I want to do tomorrow. Enjoy! --Gypsy Rose--

Yes, there are a number of great German restaurants in Fredericksburg - my favorite is the Auslander, down near the courthouse. Have fun! Eileen
quoting "James H. Cloos Jr." : >|> They may not speak english, but -- at least the couple of times I >|> drove up there -- sie kann auch kein Deutsch. Edle Küche ist das jedenfalls nicht, eher guter Kantinenfraß. Und leider ist das Bier hier halt so teuer... summed up: neither food nor drink is worth the drive out there, in my opinion. But it's a German menu alright, Bavarian mostly. Unfortunately, the beer is too expensive around here (not their fault, I guess. If a bottle of Schneider Hefe-Weizen costs more than $2 in the market, then charging $4 isn't unreasonable. Funny thing, they were telling me that alcohol consumption over the last 5 years or so has gone down to a third of what it used to be. Texan drivers are getting more careful, drinking less, was the suggestion... well, maybe. I wouldn't know...
