Food in Temple--Blue Bonnet Cafe

If you're ever hungry on I-35 on Temple, I found the most perfect little cafe.

Blue Bonnet has been there since the 1920s. It's immaculately clean inside, not a dingy diner. White formica tables, gray vinyl booths, and great plate lunches of roast beef, fried chicken, chicken-fried steak. It couldn't believe they were open for Sunday lunch (entree, 4 vegetables, drink and dessert for $5.95)!

I have said for years there was no decent place to eat around Temple on I-35 except the Stagecoach Inn in Salado. I was wrong. Blue Bonnet is like a tiny, homey Threadgill's.

It's on 25th Street on Temple.

Any other favorite places off I-35?
