Since there were two requests, I'll post this:

Mexican: you will get many heartfelt opinions about this. Everyone has their preferences and this is not a casual subject in Dallas. So, these are the places I like...

Ft. Worth: Joe T. Garcia's They serve two things (no menu): a cheese enchilada/beef taco dinner and fajitas. They used to just serve the enchiladas. Good margaritas. I was just there on Friday. Great food, sit out on the patio...

After Joe T's, go to the Caravan of Dreams downtown and sit on the rooftop bar (the Caravan has live shows, but if you just go to the bar there isn't a cover) and look out over downtown Ft. Worth (they have little twinkle lights everywhere so it's actually very pretty).

Euless: Main Street BBQ has been getting huge raves in dfw.eats. I plan to go ASAP. Only open Friday and Saturday night from 6-9 and I think it's BYOB.

Dallas:

Tex-Mex/Mexican:
El Arroyo - on Greenville just south of Walnut Hill. Good food, killer margaritas!!! (went there on Sunday - can't tell I like Mexican can you...)

Mi Cocina - great food, great margaritas!!!

El Tio Lupe - a true dive on Ross Avenue downtown. Great food, but when I say dive I mean it. Mom and Pop.

Chuy's - another import from Austin with good food, soso margaritas. Portions are huge. I like Chuy's, but it can be very crowded and noisy on the weekend. Check out the Elvis room. Chuy's gets some bad press from those who prefer family owned and run, but it's easy to get to and very consistent and I have has some very good food there.

Galvan's - Mom and Pop

Herrera's- a Dallas institution. BYOB. Can be very greasy but the hot sauce counteracts any clogging of the arteries. It'll remove stubborn tar stains from your car too. YUM. Get a plate with tamales. This is true Tex-Mex at it's best/worst. Don't worry about the neighborhood, they'll steal the Porche parked out front first.

Other:
MoMo's: Forest Lane location only. Good simple Italian. Reasonable prices.

In Deep Ellum (don't believe the whiners who say this area is not safe. That was ten years ago when there was only one club. Now it's been santized for your protection):

Sambuca: Jazz music, expensive "meditarranean/italian" fare that is not really worth it IMHO. I go there later for drinks and coffee and to listen to the very good music. If Marchel Ivory is playing, you really should not miss it.

Deep Ellum Cafe - been there a while, great place. Good sanwiches and salads at very reasonable prices. Also more upscale entrees at the $10-$15 range. Nice patio out back. I eat here frequently.

Green Room: just opened. Amazing food, amazing prices. Tuna steak sauteed in pinot noir and butter served with onions and squash for $10. Also has sandwiches and a late night menu until 4am. I recommend it. AT least go have a drink and check out the decor. Chandelier is made of cymbals.

There are a bunch of other places on Elm, Main and Commerce, but those are my faves.

THAI SOON: lower Greenville, best Thai food in Dallas. Vegetarian and seafood only. Wonderful Pad Thai.

BBQ: My Dallas fave is Dickey's. The Sonny Bryan contingent will flame me for this....

Beer: Gingerman on Boll St, About 50 types on tap.

E-mail me at [email removed] if you have any questions....
