Yeah. Bull Creek Lodge. That was the name of the fishing camp. Thanks and congratulations for having a better memory than I do.

I wonder just how MANY times my chum and I took those two girls on those canoe trips. I do recall that we did it often and enjoyed it each and every time.

This is austin.food and I forgot to mention the food at the Bull Creek County Line.

As the noted, that bread of theirs doesn’t take a back seat to anyone else’s bread. Period.

If County Line were anywhere except in Central Texas, their barbecue would be GREAT!!!

As it is, they have some very stiff competition - - - - there are quite a few barbecue places that have better barbecue than County Line.

My own favorite is Cartwright’s Barbecue on the Main Street of Bastrop but there are a lot of Central Texas places that compare favorably.

At Cartwright’s the barbecue is superb, but there is no way that Cartwright’s can compete with the decorum, ambiance, and that County Line provides. Cartwright’s is absolutely NO FRILLS.

I like to eat at County Line and do so when I am in that area. If Cartwright’s did the barbecuing for County Line, I would make it a point to be in that area very often.

As for Mount Bonnell, I wonder how many people realize that George Armstrong Custer and his troops camped out there a few times.

It would have taken a lot of paddling, but it was possible to propel one of those canoes from Bull Creek Lodge to the base of Mount Bonnell.

Back when I was young, they used to tell us that Mount Bonnell was getting smaller and smaller because every time a young couple went up there, they knocked off a piece. I suppose they were talking about those loose rocks on that shear cliff beside Lake Austin. I don’t guess the story was true though. Mount Bonnell seems to be the same size as it was 50 years ago. (Heh, heh.)
