Coco Cafe

I have been waiting for this place to open ever since I first saw
the "coming soon" sign promising authentic taiwanese snacks. It's situated next to Ding Hao (din ho?) in the Target shopping Center off of Ohlen @ 183. Ding Hao has a reputation for being one of the most authentic chinese restaurants in town, so I hoped Coco would follow in the steps of it's neighbor.

Surprisingly it does. The menu is limited but is exactly what you
would expect if walking to a drink stand on the steets of Taiwan. There are about 20 types of juices and teas. I actually don't like tea that much, so I tried one of the fruit teas. I'm not exactly sure what was in it, but it was quite tasty with only a mild tea flavor.

In addition to drinks, they have a small menu of douhua and doubing.
They were out of douha (kind of like ice cream, but made from a few types of almond doufu) since they just openned, so I had a doubing, which is sweet beans and almond doufu served over shaved ice. I don't really like sweet beans, but it was still quite good.

The interior is still pretty bare, but it was pretty lively when I
came in. The restaurant was full of natives (in fact I was the only non asian in the room) mostly sitting around talking or playing games. It's a pretty casual place - a perfect place hang out for an hour or two and chat.

All in all, I highly recommend taking a trip by. The food is very
authentic, which is to say it might not suite the typical american's taste buds. (at least not the first time - but it grows on you) But if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something different, it's worth stopping by for. It's just like being in taiwan - minus the cost of the plane ticket.
