Last two times I have been in, a majority of the dishes on the buffet have been Korean, with very little Chinese and the only Japanese I noticed was the miso soup. I like Korean food and all, but if I wanna eat Korean, I will go to Korea House. :) > Now, if you're going to talk sushi, my all-time favorite is definitely > Ichiban on burnet - I eat there at least twice a week. Ack, all I am gonna do is disagree with you on this (I think you and I have had this discussion anyway :) ). If you are a converted sushi fan, I recommend Musashino or Kyoto, as while they are considerably more expensive, they are also considerably better quality and consistancy wise. I personally like the sushi at Korea House too, but their selection is quite limited in comparison and the preparation is a little different (I would only guess it's because it's a Korean v. Japanese preparation). But talking about sushi and chinese buffets in the same breath is like talking about spaghetti and tacos. Completely unrelated.. :) > Buffet Palace used to be good for "I'm in a sushi mood, and I want to > stuff myself without going broke" ($20 for all-you-can-eat sushi bar), > but from what I've heard they no longer have the sushi bar (I havent been > there in probably six to nine months). Ack again, but when I was at the Buffet Palace last weekend, the sushi bar was gone, and none was on the offering. That was the one on Anderson, no idea if the one up in Round Rock still offers it. I did enjoy the place on 290 at I-35 (what is that place called??) as they had a very large buffet and was a reasonable price for lunch. I understand their weekend evening buffet has all manner of seafood on it, but have not yet checked it out. Shanghai River in the Village on Anderson has alternately been really good and really.. so-so. Granted, I have an aversion to eating in restaurants at peak times, so it is to be expected that a buffet will sometimes not be at it's prime by the time I hit it. :) mandi

Chinese Buffet?
NNTP-Posting-Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 16:18:56 PDT Organization: SBC Internet Services Xref: alexander.INS.CWRU.Edu austin.food:4038 The last time we were in Buffet Palace we were, well - less than impressed with the cleanliness. The tablecloth covers were dirty as were a lot of the open area around the buffet itself. We've been real happy with Chino on Burnet, just across from IBM. They have some sushi rolls occasionally, and they're a great lunch place. JH

And it was filthy. Maybe it was just that one time, but I won't be back. There are better places in town. Anyone been to China Star on 290 east of I35? Or North South on 620 north of Lake Creek. NS always has sushi, spring rolls shrimp and crab legs on the buffet as well as a huge selection of regular buffet entrees for lunch and dinner. And it's right around the corner from my house. :)
