One of my favorites is Mi Tierra which is near the Mexican Market. Really great tex-mex. The chicken enchiladas mole is my favorite. Good margartas as well. Beware of the mariachis though. They play for tips so it's best to say "No thank you" unless you really like a 15 minute verison of Besame Mucho... There is a County Line (great barbecue) on the Riverwalk. There are alot of places down on the Riverwalk as well. Alot of them are pretty mediocre and many are very overpriced but there are a couple of good spots...Rio Rio was pretty good and River Ranch is sort of the upscale sister spot for steaks. Durty Nelly's Irish Pub is down there and is a fun place to get a beer. It's sort of a singalong spot but it's got alot of character - which is odd because it's part of the Hilton. But the only way you'd ever know that is the extra clean bathrooms!!! Non-restaurant - be sure to visit the Alamo but also there are about 5 missions other than the Alamo in the area including a dam that was built backwards but is still around from Colonial times and an aqueduct. Pretty neat stuff if you have time to drive around and it is really interesting to get a bigger picture of the mission culture than just the Alamo gives you.

Best restaurants in San Antonio, TX
George, forget everything Liz wrote. I'm gonna break it down for you from someone who KNOWS FOOD in San Antonio. Bob's Smokehouse (3306 Roland Ave): Best BBQ in Texas without a doubt. If you want REAL BBQ, come here. If you want a upper-class generic type food, go to County Line. 333-9611 Los Barrios (4223 Blanco Rd): The best Mexican restaurant in town. 732-6017 Blanco Cafe (5525 Blanco Rd @ Oblate): The best Tex-Mex you will ever taste. Difference between Mexican and Tex Mex? Find out for yourself.... the only way to do it. 344-0531 Jailhouse Cafe (1126 W Commerce): The biggest Chicken Fried Steak you will ever see, and one of the Top 3 in Texas. 224-5001 MR & MRS G's (2222 S WW White Rd): You want some Soul Food? Home cooking that will blow you away? Come here. 359-0002 Little Hipps (1423 McCullough): The biggest and best burgers in town. 222-8114 My advice to any tourist is this: Don't eat anything on the Riverwalk, and downtown for that matter. The quality (if your looking for the best) is just not found there. Most tourists would think so, but a LOCAL is telling you how it be! If you need any info on certain types of food (chinese, italian, vietnamese), let me know. I will be glad to help you, and anyone out there. I love prettty women, Rock N Roll, and great food!
