I like a restaurant called Safari in north Nashville very much.

I went to college in Nashville at Belmont University (Near Vanderbilt)

Now don't laugh... but here were a couple of REAL potential places you may never hear about otherwise.

1. O'Charleys is a good chain and is founded in Nashville. INCREDIBLE Steak and Biscuits.
2. I LOVED this place on 21st Ave and Demonbreun called Mac's Country Cookin'. It's REALLY Nashville "Music City". Got the Meat and 3 vegatable plates and real cornbread. Excellent for a true hole in the wall.
3. There is a fantastic little mexican restraunt in Hillsboro village.
I Loved the place, but it's been soooo long, I can't remember the name. It's right off of 21st Ave near the 1st American Bank (can't remember the cross-streets). If you find Hillsboro village (on 21st) you should be able to ask and get directions.
4. And Finally (the best for last). YOU HAVE TO HAVE BREAKFAST AT THE PANCAKE PANTRY. It's right on 21st avenue in Hillsboro village. It's KNOWN for having major Country Music folks come in and out (even had a Naville Banner article on 1 of its' waitresses who was loved by the musicians). I used to eat breakfast there all the time and have seen the Gatlins, Ricky Scaggs, and many others in there. It's really GREAT.

Well, good luck and enjoy.

BTW, if the above are not appealing, major attraction resteraunts include the 101st Airborne (by the airport), Stockyards Inn (BBQ downtown), and the Hermitage Hotel for fancy (downtown).

Take Care,
Jim

My opinions do not necesarily reflect those of Trident Data Systems, or for that matter, lots of people I know.

It seems as though O'Charley's has gone somewhat downhill in the last few years. I guess the main reason would be the the menu has decreased. For similar type of food and atmosphere, I much prefer The Cooker, J. Alexander's or Green Hills Grille (well maybe a slightly different atmosphere, but excellent food).

The place you're thinking of (I think) used to be called Los Cunados, but has been bought out (or at least changed names). It's now The Iguana. Don't know what it's like, though, since I haven't been there. I'm not sure what the street is either (maybe Acklen) but it's about 1/2 block up the side street from Pancake Pantry (see below). Also right there are Sunset Grill (consistently excellent) and Faison's (uniquely-named and often quite good dishes). For mexican, I might suggest La Paz in Green Hills.

I'd second this recommendation. Be prepared for a line, but it's worth it for their large offerings of pancakes (and other stuff too). By the way, I happened to catch The Tonight Show a few months ago where Jay Leno called up a waitress from the Pancake Pantry in order to discuss Garth Brooks' diet. Go figure...
