Stockholm dining is often an expensive exercise in mediocrity. I highly recommend Diana in Gamla Stan - outstanding traditional Swedish food with a pleasant cellar atmosphere. Some of the tastiest reindeer I had anywhere in Sweden. I would avoid Fem Sma Hus - a traditional restaurant also in the old town. Food is not that exciting, especially for the price. However, the restaurant has quite a bit of charm. If you need something faster or at strange hours - I enjoyed the Orient Expressen located off the main hall in the Central Station - they have an nice plate of salmon that comes with extremely tasty creamed potatoes with dill. (Theres something wonderful about Swedish potatoes anywhere - I have a friend who still raves about a hot dog and mashed potatoes plate she picked up at a train station.) Finally, you might want to try to get lunch at Stadshuskalleren - in the cellar of City Hall (IMHO one of the most striking buildings in Europe). This is the kitchen that prepares the Nobel banquet each December. Jason
