Fung Lum Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui is Hong Kong's longest established Sichuan (Szechwan) Restaurant. Sichuan food is famous for being hot and spicy with liberal use of chilli, pepper, peppercorn and sesame amongst others. These spices are used to produce a variety of tastes ranging for hot and sour, peppery, salty, vinegary and sweet. However not all of the dishes are spicy, try the Vegetarian Bean Curd Rolls or the Fried Seasoned Beans if you want dishes with a unique taste but without any spiciness. Bon Bon Chicken is another dish which is not spicy, being cold shredded chicken on white bean noodles served with a delicious sesame sauce. Some recommended dishes which are a little spicy would include Prawns in Chilli and Hot Garlic Sauce (try this with some Steamed Bread Rolls or Silverthread Buns to dip in the Chilli and Hot Garlic Sauce which is absolutely out of this world !), Fried Pork Ribs Szechuan Style and Sizzling Beef on a Hot Plate. For those who can take reasonably spicy food, try the Dai Chin Chicken (Chicken fried with dried chillis) and Mapo Toufu (Braised Bean Curd with Chilli and Minced Beef). To finish things of try the Dan Dan Noodles which is a spicy soup noodle dish with peanuts in it. The Restaurant staffs speak English and Japanese as Cantonese, Mandarin, and Shanghainese. The Menu is in English and Chinese, indicates which dishes are spicy and recommended dishes are also given in English and Chinese on a table card. Vegetarians can be catered for as well as those who do not want MSG to be used in the preparation of the food. If you have any other dietary restrictions ask the staff and they will advise if they can be complied with.
