I am a chef thath used to live in Charleston. I live in NYC now. Anyway, here are my suggestions:

Slightly North of Broad Street (SNOBS) - on East Bay Street, downtown Charleston.

Carolina's - Off of East Bay Street, near SNOBS. AWESOME! One of the best meals that I had in Charleston.

Arizona's - On East Bay Street, north of downtown. Great ribs! Classical Mexican food.

Blossom's - East Bay Street, downtown. Great atmosphere and service. Mediteranian (sp?) food. Awesome!

Magnolia's - East Bay Street, 1 block from Blossom's. Same owners. Traditional Low Country cuisine.

For Buffalo wings - Backstage (Deli) on Folly Road, James Island. Very close to downtown Chas. 60 or so beers available. Not too crowded and specials on wings for happy hour and after 9:00 pm. Used to have 10 cent wings after 9:00.

****>>AVOID<<****

Anything on Market Street. Usually crowded and service sux. The usual sports bars (my favorite hang out on Sunday, though ;)) and shops.

Charleston is very nice. The people are very friendly and if you need directions downtown, just ask any shop keeper or passerby and you should be able to find what you need. Queens sux compared to Charleston. :(

If you need any other info on Charleston, my e-mail is [email removed]

Enjoy your trip!

All those are excellent places. Also try Anson's. Magnolias is super.
