Key West Seafood and Raw Bar

My wife and I met friends in Columbia SC last night and had dinner at a franchise restaurant called the Key West Seafood and Raw Bar. The manager told us that franchises are available, but that there were no takers from Raleigh, yet.

The place is huge- I'd guess in the 600 seat capacity, with a central bar. The building design and decor are strongly reminiscent of Key West's open architecture.

The menu had as many non-seafood items on it as traditional seafood meals and the price for a meal was in the $12-$16 range, with appetizers in the $5-$6 range. Mixed drinks were $3.25- but were all in the darn little airline bottles.

Simply stated, if a Key West was situated somewhere on Falls of Neuse or Six Forks Road, it'd make a killing. While about 15% pricier than O'Charley's, for instance, the food makes up for it. If there are any entepreneurs out there, I sure hope you follow up on this.

Found this at Garry's Bar-B-Q Pit Website's Restarant List credited to you:

"There's a great one just over the VA/NC border called Rad Dew's. I had great NC-style BBQ just over the Florida border from SC, right off of i-95. I think the place was called The Picked Pig -- it's in the Stern book." Lawrence Hunter, PhD. [email removed]

As I sit reading about barbeque with two Boston butts smoking out back, I wonder how the pitcooked pork that has been cooked here in SC since before the Carolina's were separated into North and South is Credited to "NC" STYLE. But I must protest when North Carolina gets credit for RADD DEWS. It is, and always has been located on SC 701 in Conway, SC (about 20 miles from Myrtle Beach) Three generations of Dews serve "chitlins" (don't ask!) on Thursday Nights, and Barbeque on Friday and Saturday. They wholesale their excellent CAROLINA style pit-cooked pork to other restaurants in the Area the rest of the week, so you might be able to find THAT in SE North Carolina. (Perhaps as far North as Calabash) However, on any weekend you will find people from NC in Radd's restaurant, having traveled further south to get his product.

Well, my pork has been on for six hours now and I'm going to go pull a taste. Later, Scott Jordan
