Just returned from Charleston, SC...one of THE great restaurant cities in the US. Some of our favorites...

Carolina's...still the best...a little pricey, but worth it.

Anson's...outstanding...also, a little expensive but you'll enjoy.

Fulton Five...very good authentic Italien.

Jestine's Kitchen...for good down home low country cookin' at a very reasonable price in a charming atmosphere, check it out.

Pinckney's Cafe...another small, charming restaurant with very good food at very good prices.

And finally (drum roll please)...

Bowen's Island Restaurant...if you're looking for a fancy shmancy place, go elsewhere...you'll find this joint down the end of a long dusty trail on Bowen's Island (between James and Folly Islands)...it's an old shack where oyster lovers gather together in a graffiti covered room while the oyster roaster dumps shovelfuls of oysters on your table til you tell him to stop... if you're looking for a memorable experience, this is it.

Enjoy the food in Charleston, it's some of the best around!

HOORAY - Someone finally took my rantings and ravings to
heart and went to a place I've been recommending every
time someone asks for Charleston eating places.

Great that you tracked it down, not that easy to find.
Hope you wore old clothes and brought along some bandaids.

I'm of the opinion that Bowen's Island and a little joint
by the name of Carmen's Country Kitchen in South Philly
are two of the most unique restaurants in the US of A.

      Enjoy,
