This seems like a month post from me, but people keep asking.

Bowen's Island is a weathered shack on a spit of land by the name of
Bowen's Island. You walk in to a large room and keep walking to the room where oysters are roasted. Every afternoon the oyster roaster rakes up oysters from the marshlands around Bowen's Island. These are clump oysters - four or more oysters clumped together. He dumps a burlap bag of oysters on a charcoal grill at the front of the room and roasts them for a couple of minutes - then scoops up a shovel full, walks them across the room and dumps them on the table. You do the shuckin' and the eatin'

Bowens Island is 15 minutes south of Charleston. I was introduced to the joint by a guy name Walter, owner of the Swordgate Inn, who got tired of my badgering him for the single unique Charleston restaurant.
It's not on the tourist center's list of restaurants, but you must search it out.

Enjoy.

Carolina's is my favorite! They have a wonderful goat cheese salad. I've been there several times and never been disappointed. ENJOY!

Slightly North of Broad. Nouvelle Low Country. I believe this may be the best resaurant in Charleston, although I don't live there. (and haven't tried Le Million mentioned below).

La Millione. I have not tried it, but local hotel staff and cab crivers say it's excellent Frnch cuisine.

We had excellent food and service at Magnolia and
Carolina's. Both restaurants have eclectic interiors and interesting menus to choose from.

We had a good meal at Louis' Charleston Grill
in the Omni, but we were slightly disappointed.
For the buildup that restaurant gets and the
prices they charge, we thought it would be
excellent. In all honesty, both of our
dinners were overcooked - although when we
pointed that out to our server, they did try to
compensate later in the meal by offering us
free desserts. (We turned them down, neither
of us are big sweets eaters).

In any case, Charleston is one of my favorite places to visit. I can't get enough of that town!
