A while back, someone suggest Zaw's for good Chinese take-out. I'm seconding the motion! I had shrimp-fried rice last week, and am looking for an excuse to go back. The ingredients were fresh, the shrimp plentiful, and the food moist and very well-spiced (as opposed to some fried rice I've had elsewhere). In short- delicious! Also, it was practically worth the money just to stand there and watch the chef at work! -Mary Jensen

Zaw's
It seemed to be just about the only place
recommended by an Indian person in the Pgh area.
I've heard several Indians recomment India Garden in Oakland, and some who
liked Taste of India in Garfield/Friendship/Lawrenceville.
The only South Indian restaurant I know of is Dosa Hut in Monroeville. Get
off 376 on Bus. 22. Turn left on Rodi Rd, and immediately turn right on
this little road that winds up to the left. Stay on this road for a few
miles. You'll cross a creek and Thompson Run Road eventually, go under an
overpass and continue another half mile so past what looks like a quarry (it
might just be a heavy equip rental place or somethig). Right past this
quarry looking place, is a tiny rundown building -- you are there! There
food is very good and totally vegetarian. I wouldn't bother shopping at the
grocery attached; it generally sucks for my experience. I'd go to Bombay
Emporium or that "new" place on Craig Street next to Cafe Azure.
BillAfter seeing numerous posts in the last year, raving about Zaw's - especially the Singapore Noodles, I finally got around to trying them. I thought the Singapore Noodles were absolutely awful. I gave them another try and had the Burmese BBQ pork and noodles thing which was okay but not great. I'm willing to try them a few more times before I decide whether or not I like them but I *really* don't understand why people think the Singapore noodles are so great. Blecch! Kate
I like Zaw's, mostly because the people who run it are so nice, and it's enormously entertaining to watch the guy cook. I like patronizing this sort of place. Most of the food is pretty good and reasonably priced, too. I was pretty disappointed with the Singapore Rice Noodles. The flavor was fine, but the noodles were overly greasy and soggy. The late Oriental Balcony had great Singapore Rice Noodles, but Zaw's aren't a good replacement, unfortunately. My other complaint with Zaw's is that they should use more fresh vegatables. The fried rice contains pasty frozen peas and carrots, which is pretty disappointing. No sauteed string bings on the menu. Also, the white rice is usually a glutonous brick - I think they make too much at a time, and it sits too long. Their Sesame Chicken is great.
