At the risk of getting flamed due to my original post, I have decided that I was a little too close minded. Also I was very much at fault for a lot of arguments. I would like to ask you, much as I did people in Boston: What is your favorite NEW place in Pittsburgh? I am going out Saturday with friends from out of town and want to try someplace that I have not. I was given a recommendation by a food critic to try, The Thai place. It is where La Petite used to be. I was also torn on giving Le Pommier another try based on a posters recommendation or traveling to Nemacolin again. Well, I will look for some great ideas. Oh, you have my word, no flaming responses for any recommendation. GAT. Oh yea, while I am writing. If you are in the mood for a day trip, to a beautiful area. Go to Helens at Seven Springs. While it is not very original the food is well prepared and nicely presented. And since they pull the trout out of the stream daily be sure to get the smoked trout, or smoked platter, and some type of trout dish. They do a lot of different ones daily. It is not C.T.'s but it is delightful. GAT.

Your favorite new Pittsburgh.

The only Thai restaurant in Pgh worth going to is the Siamese Kitchen. I can't think you'll be any more impressed by a second visit to le Pommier than by your last - this is a very great pity, since when it first opened, le Pommier was a fine restaurant... perhaps they got one bad apple. This isn't sounding very positive, is it? Victoria House sounds like a nice idea, although I haven't tried it yet. Southwestern Bistro is moderately good (about as good as a Bicky restaurant gets, which isn't very). Hmmm, well, I'll be toasted for this, for sure, but, the next time you're in Chicago, check out Mia Francesca. It's very good and rather cheap. Three downsides.... obnoxious maitre d' , full of smoking gits, and it seems to have a consistent two hour wait for a table. These are more than made up for by the food. I wouldn't say that the Thai place is awful, but certainly the Siamese Kitchen in Squirrel Hill (on Forbes between Murray and Shady) is by far the best of the Thai places I have tried in Pittsburgh. It is a pity they no longer serve lunch. Daniel (who just ate a delicious, inexpensive meal at Minutello's)
