 Veltri's is still there. 335-4474.

For Italian, personally, I prefer Minutello's in Shadyside. The pizza is
excellent (sauce not too spicy or thin, generous cheese, chewy crust, not
 dry).

 Enjoy, and welcome home!

I would describe this place as a slightly upscale version of
neighborhood Italian. However, while we found the food enjoyable, the
view is the high point. The restaurant sits high on a bluff with a
splendid view of the Allegheny River valley. We like to get there while
it's still light and watch the view change in gathering twilight and
 darkness. Splendid!

If you want to sit by the window, it can't hurt to call ahead for a
reservation and specify a window table.

It is actually in Plum and is on the road between Oakmont and New
Kensington. From Oakmont, go up the hill away from the river. When the
Yellow Belt bears right, continue straight ahead. It's about 2 or 3 or
4 miles on your left. Big parking lot, big sign. If you go down the
hill approaching New Kensington, you've gone too far.

We are vegetarians (eating cheese) and found a limited but adequate
selection. We have no knowledge about the rest of the menu.

Thank you for the reply. I do remember the food being very
good, and the view absolutely terriffic! I actually remember how
to get there, since my grandfather used to take us to Veltri's
after golfing at Oakmont C. C. golf coarse. He used to get us a
table by the window, and point out the barges and marina craft
venturing out on the river. Our children are older now and in
school, and behave somewhat appropriately in nice restaurants. It
will be nice to take them, and my mom and dad there this summer.
And an added bonus to hear the food is STILL good!
