In pgh.food I read this message from Aziz A Lookman : >You might want to try the Udipi Palace restaurant in Monroeville. Is this the Udipi Cafe at 4141 Old William Penn Hwy Monroeville, PA 15146 (412) 373-5581 That is what Yahoo returns. > >Its traditional South Indian fare, coupled with a couple of North Indian >dishes -- definatitely not bland. > If it is South Indian then it is not bland at all. Great stuff. >Several communities in India have been vegetarians for eons, and, I >guess, over time have managed to figure out how to cook veggie food in a >manner that is really tasty (at least, to their, and my palates). > Health food gets some of that rep because there are people who work at depriving themselves. They exercise and eat healthy as a method of self-punishment. Also, if you go to health food from "normal" food the first step is to cut things out. It usually takes some time to realize that it is not good food with the good stuff taken away, but just different food. The easiest way is to get there is to take Exit 14 (Business 22) off I-376 East, drive past the Monroeville Mall and take a left onto Duff Road (there's a Chi-chi's and an Army surplus store at the corner). Drive down Duff Rd until a 3-way stop sign and then take a left. Udipi Cafe is about a mile on your right. If you see a cement factory on your right, or go thru a short tunnel, you've gone too far. The place itself is highly recommended. Be forewarned that it is a low-on-the-ambience but high-on-value kind of place. Enjoy.
