Hard to come by, let me know if you find it. But here are some of my
favorite places to get a simple vegetarian meal.

Zenith, on Sarah street on the South Side is all vegetarian, lots of
vegan stuff. Simple, small menu that changes often, very reasonably
priced. Sounds like the closest to what you are looking for. I find
the food tends to be a little underseasoned for my taste sometimes, but
other folks may like it that way. I certainly enjoy eating there
whenever I get the chance, and it has a very cool atmosphere (it's an
 antique store, too).

La Feria, above Pamela's on Walnut street in Shadyside bills itself as
Peruvian and also has a very small, changing menu; they always have at
least one or two vegetarian options, can't guarantee vegan (and I've
yet to see tofu). Also a pleasant atmosphere, very small, and the food
 has generally been quite good.

Spice Island and Road to Karrakesh, just a block apart on Atwood street
in Oakland, have ethnic-inspired dishes with lots of vegetarian
options. Hard to say exactly what the ethnicity is, but the food is
 good!

For Indian food, my favorites are Sree's in Sharpsburg and Taj Mahal on
McKnight road. You *have* to eat at Sree's just to experience it; it's
unlike any place I've ever eaten. Cheap, and don't eat all day before
 you go there!

 Enjoy-
