We should have listened. My boss suggested trying Dante & Luigi's, what a mistake. I made reservations for 3 @ 6:00PM and we showed up at 5:50. The women receptionist took our names like she was doing us some kind of favor and looked up our reservation. She then comes back telling me the reservation wasn't until 6:15, but, again with an attitude, that she could seat us. I told her, "No, the reservation was for 6:00." So we're seated, looking over the menu, waiting for a waiter to take our drink order. I order a captain morgan & coke, my girlfriend a cosmopolitan. I'm shocked when my drink is delivered in a 5 ounce water glass. I'm even more shocked when I find out I was charged $6.00 for such drink. My girlfriends cosmopolitan tasted like no cosmopolitan she ever had. Even worse then the $6.00/drink was having to chase down our waiter to get refills on several occasions. Then for an appetizer I had mussels in a marinara sauce. Mussels were good, the sauce a little watery for me. For our entree we both went with lobster ravioli fra diablo. The ravioli themselves were OK, but the sauce was far from a fra diablo sauce. The lobster chunks in the sauce were rubbery. All in All, we should have gone to Ralph's!

Be it Dante and Luigi's, Ralph's or Villa Roma - you're eating down home South Philly Italian. Along with the macaroni (pasta) and gravy (tomato sauce) you're likely going to experience 'tude (South Philly attitude) from all you encounter. 'tude is cool if you deal with it, serve it back and don't get all upset and Center Cityish. I'm also not sure I'd order a Cosmopolitan at any of these places. Kind of like ordering a martini in Chinatown. Stick to the Italian Red. These places are a lot of fun. They are real South Philly. They are real family style Italian. Treat it as an adventure (ie dinner with Rocky and Adrianne) and you'll have a great time. Get pissed off at the 'tude and the quality of the mixed drink and the glassware and I'd suggest sticking to Steven Starr type establishments.. Holly Moore http://www.hollyeats.com
