We went to the Cultural Street Fair on Saturday, and decided to drop
 by the Seventh Street Grille.

First, we were extremely impressed by the beer selection (even if
they haven't taken down their bottles of Celis, which you can no
longer get in Pennsylvania). It's definitely the best beer selection
in downtown Pittsburgh (Kaya might have a better selection but it's
up in the Strip) and it will be added to the beer in Pittsburgh
 page (<a href="http://www.transarc.com/~jmann/pghbeer.html">)

I tried their shrimp fritters which were very good.

So we went back later for dinner. Great French onion soup and
fine bread. Jim got the duck and enjoyed it. However, I got the
garlic chicken and was very disappointed. It tasted microwaved
(not grilled) and had little garlic. Compounding the problem was
that it hadn't been cooked through the first time, so I had to send
it back. The waitress was very apologetic. If it hadn't been a very
busy Saturday night, I probably should have asked to speak to the
 manager.

Other than the chicken, the rest of the meal was fine, the service
was good, and we had a nice evening. We'll probably go back and
will just avoid the chicken in the future.

I also tried Seventh Street Grille for the first time this weekend.
I went with a large crowd of people on Saturday night, after the dance
performance at the Benedum. They have the advantage of having their kitchen
being open until 11pm, and you don't need reservations that late.

For starters we had grilled portobello mudhrooms (delicious), artichoke
with tomato (ok), and mussels - one with a white wine sauce and one with a
marinara sauce - the marinara was good but the white wine sauce was
excellent and there was plenty to soak up with bread after the mussels were
 but a fading memory.

For the main course my S/O and I had a grilled duck salad (delicious) and a
veal dish (nicely prepared but the meat could have been of better quality).
Various other dishes were tried by others, including pepper steak and
salmon, and everybody seemed to enjoy what they had. Their deserts were
so-so, I'd pass next time, but the espresso was very good.

The average cost for everything, including plenty of Oktoberfest beer, tax
and tip, was $29 per person. You could weasily get away with spening about
$15 for dinner if you wanted to.

The service was also pretty good, although the place was empty at that hour
 so your mileage may vary.

 Summary: 12 thumbs up!

   Julio
