So, I tried the new Vietnamese place, Pho Saigon, which opened up in Bloomfield last week. It's roughly across the street from China House, near the Bloomfield Foodland. Prices are low, with most entrees in the $5.00-$6.50 range. There's not much decor - it's set up sort of like a diner, actually, complete with a bar. Obviously, though, the main question is how the food is. I got an order of spring rolls (of course) and pork & grilled chicken over vermicelli. The spring rolls were good, but the rice paper was unusually chewy, and a little bit tough, and this took away from them a bit. I'd say a little better than the ones at Thai Cuisine, but not by a lot. For the entree, the noodles were very good and it came with a nice assortment of raw veggies on the side, as well as a few good sauces. However, the meat was tough and perhaps overcooked - not too impressive. I get the impression they are first-time restaurant people, so perhaps in a few weeks the quality will settle down, but my feeling is that Pho Minh (my current favorite Vietnamese place in town) is just plain better. If anyone else has been and has a more positive experience to report, I'd be willing to try them again (getting a different dish).
