Astral Plane (1700 block of Lombard St.); Friday, Saturday Sunday (S. 21st St.); Judy's Cafe (3rd & Bainbridge in the South St. area) and Knave of Hearts (200 block of South) are holdovers from the city's 1970s restaurant renaissance and still retain some of their then-funky atmosphere. It's been too long since I've eaten in any of them myself, though.

BTW, you were close: Conshohocken.

There are probably hundreds of restaurants worth considering. Do you like Italian? One of my favorite Philadelphia restaurants is called Ralph's. Its the oldest family owned Italian restaurant in the country. Ralph's is on 9th Street between Catherine and Christian Streets in South Philly. Go hungry and bring cash. I recommend the veal. Delicious!
