Can anyone recommend a good Middle Eastern restaurant? We went to Khalils II in Oakland last year but the service was excruciatingly slow. Apparently a new restaurant has opened in Butler. It's called the Kebab Cafe. I've heard mixed reviews.

The 'Mediterranean Grill' located on Forbes Avenue in Squirrel Hill is
very good. The prices are reasonable and dress casual. I would
definitely recommend this one. Some others have suggested 'Amel's' which
I believe is in the South Hills. To me anything is better than 'Ali Baba'
in Oakland. I had a bad experience there and never returned.

 Just my 2 cents....

Basha's on Greenville is excellent, but maybe a bit pricey. (~$15/ person)

I have eaten at Amel's several times and had nothing but good experiences.
Amel's has been voted #1 Middle Eastern restaurant(Pittsbrugh Mag.)
several times and I think the rating was very deserving.

I've only had good experiences at Amel's.

Also, try Ali Baba's in Oakland - my favorite for 23 years!

I agree, Kassab's is the best.

Its on Center Ave. in North Oakland, down 2 doors from the Dairy queen.
Its a pretty good little Middle Eastern grocery.

Salim's is a small store front on Centre Ave. near the Dairy Queen and
the House of Sauce. It is almost on the corner of Centre and Neville.
Mr. Salim, the owner, is a super guy to talk with about preparing middle
eastern foods and carries in stock a wonderful variety of spices and
ingredients. He also makes killer gyro's and has cheese and olives etc.
Adjacent to his small counter area is an area with tables and chairs to
eat in. In the summer he has several tables outside. Check him out -
everything in his store is super.

All true. He's a swell guy who provides fine food. But, a minor
correction -- his name is Salim El-Tahch. It's 4705 Center Avenue.
