Lombardozzi's

One of my favorite restaurants in the 'burgh is Lombardozzi's. It's in
Bloomfield, on Liberty Ave., across from West Penn Hospital & the Atlantic
gas station (i'm not sure of the cross street).

The first time i went there, i thought that it was pricey--$8 or $9 for
manicotti, for example. What i hadn't realized was that, the price for the
dinner includes lotsa stuff--2 appetizers (marinated mushrooms & clams
casino), soup, salad, garlic bread, & THEN you get your entree & side
dishes. compared to what you'd have to pay if you bought the appetizers
 separately, it's a good value.

The food is Italian & homemade. I usually stick to the pastas, which is
 mostly what I can afford ($7 to $10 range). I understand from a friend's
father that their meat dishes are equally great, although higher-priced
($14 -i think- for steak to about $25 for surf 'n turf).

The atmosphere is nice enough--not so ritzy as the Grand Concourse, but not
icky, either. It's sorta old-fashioned, so if you're looking for a place
that's "hip, funky & cool," this ain't it.

The service is impeccable. The only place in pgh. where i've gotten similar
service was at the Common Plea, and i can tell you that we paid a lot more
 there!

So if you're looking to waddle out of a place stuffed to the gills with
marvelously garlic-laden food, give it a try!

It *has* passed the Italian fiance test, btw.

 good eating,

The cross street is S Mathilda St. I live about half a block from
Lombardozzi's and yes, I will attest to the fact that it is a truly GREAT
 restaurant.

My niece's father is Italian, from an immigrant family of the Bloomfield
area. They thought enough of the place to hold her wedding shower there.
