La Foret?

We went for dinner last month; I was happy with everything except the
excessive air-conditioning (my pet peeve). We went on a weeknight, so it
wasn't terribly crowded (though there were still a good number of people
there), and our waiter was able to spend more time with us. We had some
trouble deciding on a wine, and both the waiter and the maitre d' were
 very helpful and patient.

The menu was limited, and there were no specials (though I believe they
have them on the weekends). What was on the menu was quite good, though.
I had the grilled portabello mushroom appetizer, the aged angus beef
w/cognac truffle sauce, and a lemon tart for dessert. Everything was
wonderful, particularly the beef. The only real disappointment food-wise
was the "rice roll" served with my husband's rare ahi tuna slices- it was
plain rice wrapped sushi-style in very thick seaweed, and didn't really
 contribute anything to the dish.

Prices were reasonable - I believe most entrees ran between $18 and $27.
The atmosphere was nice, and the wait staff fairly attentive and
 knowledgeable.

I haven't been to the old La Foret, and would be interested to see how
this compares to its previous incarnation. I hope it does well and sticks
around - it makes a nice addition to the neighborhood...

 Hope this helps,
 -jennifer

My wife, my mother-in-law and I went about a month ago; I think it was
better than Cafe Allego, Le Pommier etc. Probably the best meal I've
had in Pittsburgh. We did the 5 course fixed price deal, and it was
superb. Not cheap, but worth it.

If you ever feel like a drive, Chez Girad in the uniontown area
(hopwell or hopwood) is definitely worth it -- 6 courses for $35, and
every bit as good - - if not better - - than the other restaurants.
