Another strong recommendation:

La Boheme, 246 S. 11th St., Philadelphia. The prices were phenomenal for the quality of food. It's French with lots of Moroccan influence. (Some of you may remember a previous occupant: that great hoagie shop Hog Island).

My parents and I ate there last night. Wow, was the food delicious! Appetizers of mussels and our favorite, a crab-shrimp gallette (akin to a crabcake, but burger-shaped). Dad had a pepper steak with a gravy, which is unusual, he said. Mom had chicken and "poivres" (I'm so lame with French) with perfect buttery whipped potatoes. I had one of the specials, pan-seared rainbow trout, with roasted pepper below, "French cut" green beans on top. We thought this food was on par with Caribou Cafe and I think it was better than L'Ange Bleu. Each dessert was fantastic, the insanely good rice pudding with caramel, the apple tart with a wonderful je-ne-sais-qois flavor, and the oprah, a chocolate-hazelnut torte.

I wish the place were bigger, so that when word-of-mouth expands and the soon-to-come writeups (haven't seen any yet) are published, you'd still be able to get in! Get there quick and keep this place alive. Not sure if reservations are needed just yet..

>prices? do they sell drinkies?

$13-$17 an entree, about 6 entrees on the menu w/ 2 specials, most are $14-$15. Appetizers $5-$8. They have La Colombe coffee. BYOB.

I think a word I forgot to use to describe the flavors is "robust." Nuanced, yet definitely well- and properly- spiced.
