Imperial Grill and Buffet

hi - this is a new (lots of advertising) buffet on W. Liberty Ave. in
Dormont (where Simpsons used to be) trie it for lunch today. large place,
soft decorations and more important soft music. The experience was a bit
schizo though. It has both American and Chinese food with tortillas and
tempura ( too much doughy breading)thrown in. After being seated a waiter
( ? re tipping in a self-serve place) asked if we wanted steak, chicken or
salmon filet from the grill and what did we wish to drink. (Coffee, tea and
soft drinks are included - alcohol is available for a charge.) We decided
to try the American dishes. Steak was a small filet, but cooked to order,
tender and tasty. This was served and we then did our own buffet thing.
there were baked potatoes (didnt see any butter or sour cream) - didnt try
them. there were sweet potato pieces, but no actual vegtables. there was
some spinach with cheese/chicken?? on top - so we just took the spinach and
it was delicious - tasted fresh. Tried the stuffed mushroom caps, also very
good. there was a salad bar - but it seemed heavy on non-fresh stuff.
Wonton soup was just broth and you could add wontons, the chicken noodle
soup was excellent. the only chinese dish we tried was duck slices with
veg. in black bean sauce and it was the best duck i have ever had in this
type of place. Desserts - included were overly sweet cherry pie, ditto
choc. chip cookies , pieces of choc. and some other cake. oh yes, there
were garlic bread sticks and rolls, though i didnt see any chinese noodles
for the soup. Other am. dishes were pizza, sphagetti, meatballs, stuffed
shells, meat slices in gravy etc. I think they are still in the shake-down
stage - but eventually might do well. lois
