Grand Canal located in Sharpsburg is a small, family-run restaurant
 specializing in homemade pasta dishes.

It is not the traditional Pittsburgh red sauce Italian. The menu is not
extensive. Price is average. BYOB. Atmosphere is informal and seating
 is limited.

My favorite appetizer is the mussels. When available, I love the
 gnochhi.

 Desserts are light and yummy.

Woodie's review of Sharpsburg restaurants Friday reminded us we've been
wanting to check out the Grand Canal. We hadn't been there since it
crossed the street. Well, it was great! My wife had a smoked mozzarella
and roasted red pepper ravioli and I had a pasta with hot peppers and
pancetta in marinara. Both were excellent!
They have a great list of Italian wines very reasonably priced. Though
it was quite busy the service was very good. We especially liked that
while waiting about 1/2 hour for a table the owner came over several
times to update us on how things were moving along. Sure beats that
"Wonder if they forgot us?" feeling you sometimes get. Anyway, though
obviously we are not "regulars" there we really felt we were treated as
though we were. All in all a wonderful meal in a very attractive
setting. I might well have given 4 stars instead of the 3 1/2 in the PG.
