"Ethnic" is kind of broad, but here goes: There are no Ethiopian or Spanish restaurants that I am aware of. If you find out about any, please send me the names. Island Cove on Forbes Avenue serves Carribean style food. I've never been, but the reviews have been good. There are three Japanese steak houses and a couple of sushi bars. I'd have to look up the names if you're interested. Mexican is very limited. Tequila Junction in Station Square is expensive, Fajita Grill, south of the city, is *very* good, and friends have raved about Santa Fe, also south of the city. There are lots of Chinese places: two of the best are Szechuan House (several locations- the one in Fox Chapel is best) and Chinese on Carson. There are tons of Italian restaurants, though our favorite is a chain- the Italian Oven. Suzie's serves good Greek food. There are several Thai restaurants, but I haven't been to any. Hope this helps!

Ethnic food in Pittsburgh
The Franklin Inn on 2313 Rochester Road in the North Hills is supposed to have good Mexican food. I've never been there but mean to get out that way to try it. I would have to say that the Sichuan House in Squirrel Hill is better out of loyalty since I work there. Gen Tso's is everyone's favorite. For the best German in the city IMHO, go to Max's Allegheny Taven on the North Side. An old place. Modarate $. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I love there spaetzle. There is a Spanish Portugese restaurant on the South Side. It's on Carson Street, but the name .....,AHHHH Mallorca something I think. I really wanted to go there, but couldn't get a reservation when i wanted to eat there. Also a Mexican? restaurant opened on the Mexican War Streets on the North Side. In Pittsburgh did an article on them in the Dining Guide. The something Inn. Begins with a "C" I think. When you ask people about stuff in Pittsburgh, most seem to tend to focus on the East Side where all of us University types dwell in high concentration. As a native and a youngun, I have to say that there is a lot more going on than just Shadyside. M.J. Kelly
