About the only place I can recommend is Casbah, in Shadyside. They have
a lot of class, and really good, creative vegetarian selections. See the
 review on VeggieBytes: <http://www.pitt.edu/~ethan/veggie.html>.
VeggieBytes is due for a major overhaul soon. Please contribute!

It's a real problem finding "classy" vegetarian places in Pittsburgh, or
even "classy" places that do a decent job of feeding a vegetarian. I was
looking for a place for a birthday dinner last year, and called many of
the better restaurants around (as reviewed by people on this group, and
from other sources) and asked about vegetarian food. Most were very
helpful- along the lines of, "sure, we can whip you up something, like a
pasta with a cream sauce". Thanks; I'll stay home.

You can find creative vegetarian food in an unpretentious atmosphere that
is VERY GOOD at the following places: Sree's, Kaya, Mad Mex, and La Feria,
Spice Island Teahouse (and many other places- those are just myu
favorites.). Avoid, at all costs, Cafe Victoria. I'll tell you why
 later....
