There are lots of cheap places to eat downtown. There are many, many (too many) fast food Chinese places. Some are pretty good, some are poor. The China Fan is reasonable (and a block from where I work). So is the China Palace Too in Market Square. If you like big fried fish sandwiches, there are two Original Oyster Houses, one on Liberty, one in Market Square. Brendan's (on Liberty near Wood) is quite nice. It's run by the students at the cooking school, so you get good food at a very good price. ****************************************************************** Jim Mann [email removed] Transarc Corporation The Gulf Tower, 707 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (412) 338-4442 WWW Homepage: file://grand.central.org/afs/transarc.com/public/jmann/html/Home.html

Any places downtown that have an 'all you can eat' special? I know of only one, which is Yu Shan Fang, next to the Wood St. jewelery store. It runs for $5.25 [the soft drink costs extra]. Free drink refills and you can get soup or fill up your plate as many times as you want. Salad items, egg rolls, fried wonton, jello, various sauteed vegetables, chicken, beef, pork, fruit, etc. At least for me, though, all that I see are a lot of fruits and vegetables, etc....but they run out of things of substance rather fast [such as beef, etc...], so it's best to go around 11AM. I think that it runs from 11AM through 2PM everyday for the lunch buffet. [Or maybe 11AM - 1PM?] Anyhow, the foods there at least are not heavily sauced down [such as Mark Pi's]. I do like China Fan also because it doesn't have the problem of having too much sauce and whatnot. But, my only point of contention is... how much of the meal is just vegetable and how much of it is pork, shrimp, beef, etc.? I wonder how much of a profit these establishments do make. :--) But, I'd rather eat healthy rather than eat a greasy burger any day. (Yeah, I'm starting to get a little paranoid about my heart stopping due to clogged arteries, although I'm 21...) Lee [email removed]
