Charlie's on Wednesday

I went to Charlie's (next to Mitchels Tavern on Mellwood and Centre Ave)
last night. Wednesday is their "Southwestern Bar-B-Que Night". They have
ribs, 1/2 and whole chickens, andouille (SP?) sausage, shrimp and steak.
3 choices of sauce: Bar-B-Que, Wally's (marinara sauce I think) and the
 Louisiana Red Gravy.

I got 1 of the 2 barbeque samplers they have. I got 1/2 rack of ribs,
1/2 chicken, a large andouille sausage, and a side (I got the dirty
rice). I got the Bar-B-Que sauce which was not hot but very good. I
think they but the Louisiana Red Gravy on the sauage. It was hot and
delicious. Everything was very good. Chicken moist, ribs very meaty,
and the rice was pretty hot and excellent. I would not mind having the
recipe for the rice. The sampler was $13 and was more than I could ever
eat in one sitting. Plan on having the leftovers tonight.

The other person had a cheese steak with a side of potato salad. Very
good as usual. And if you like potato salad, you have to try this.

I love this place and always go back. Plus the pitchers of beer are
$3.50 ($2 on Thursday I think.) Does not get any better than that.
Unless they were to have a "REAL" barbeque night, which everyone knows
is chopped pork barbeque (vinegar based on course) from North Carolina.
Don't knock it until you have tried it.

Charlie's (formerly G's) uses 2 types of sauces on their wings. There is
the sauce they use on #5-9 wings which grows gradually hotter, and then
there is a different sauce they use on the 10's which is pure hell fire.
The only thing I have had that is equivelant were the suicide wings (or
whatever they call them) at Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon PA.
Charlie's has the best cheese steaks in Pittsburgh, and their potato
salad truly is wonderful. Something else to consider is their steak and
chicken salads. The larges run about 7 bucks and are tremendous, we are
talking a big heap o'salad. The soylent green house dressing is quite good.
